Small boat navigation is better with a simple yet high performance multi-function compact GPS chart plotter and digital fish finder. The Raymarine e7D is one of the most advanced options on the market which is also available in the mid cost range for plotters and fish finders. It is highly specialized to work in nearly every environment with real time data. Fetching fish data is possible with only a few selections.
The WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity makes it possible to connect Raymarine e7D to Apple devices such as the iPad, iPod or iPhone. It can sync to streams of the data whenever and wherever the user is on the boat. All facets of the Raymarine e7D display capabilities and controls can be accessed in this manner through the Apple devices and a specialized app available from iTunes.
It is definitely a high end product that has more features than the majority of products on the market. It includes a wide variety of interface connection options compatible with the NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183 and SeaTalking connections. This increases the compatibility with a with an even wider selection of third party equipment which may be added to the boat. Networking is possible between boats wirelessly and can even share streams with other e7D users.

I’ve done a lot of research before buying this unit. I spent a lot of time at the local marine store comparing it to other units, specifically Garmin 740s. Garmin has a better touchscreen, much more responsive and the whole layout seemed to be more user friendly. However, I decided to buy Raymarine e7d because I have other Raymarine equipment (autopilot and wind vane) on the boat already and I was planning on connecting it to the sonar. After installing this unit on the boat I realized that it doesn’t have to support for my autopilot and wind vane even though they are all from the same manufacturer. It looks like I made the wrong decision, I should’ve bought Garmin 740.

Raymarine e7d has worked flawlessly for me for last 14 months. The transducer has 600watts of power which is important for me because I fish in deeper water, I wouldn’t be able to use Lowrance or Humminbird with 250 watts. Raymarine comes with a 3-year warranty, the other guys offer only 1 year warranty.

I have a e7D system and a CP100 chirp unit and I have nothing good to say about it. It has the potential to be a good chart plotter/fish finder but since new I have had nothing but problems. Much to my relief it was recalled for some update or the other which resulted in greater disappointment. It was again updated by my boat builder and now it is worse than ever before, so much so that I intend replacing this so-called new u-beaut expensive system with a well proven tried and tested make.

I have had this unit for several months and it is garbage. And I am not just ranting for the heck of it, look at the fact that Flir recalled it to replace the touchscreen because of a bad design… not including the bad… no, horrible design with the joystick. So I sent it back and get a refurbished unit with a bad chart reader and the button face plate falling off. This thing is garbage, stay away!

We are on our third unit. Now this one also has issues. The first was recalled, then the second one the port quit working, now the third the knob is not working properly. This is terrible for a boat that gets used a six to eight times a year.
