The package reviewed here, 000-16226-001, ships with C-MAP DISCOVER OnBoard charts covering US and Canada coastal and inland waters. A separate SKU, 000-16111-001, carries embedded US inland charts for over 17,000 American lakes instead.
If you fish inland US waters only, compare the inland bundle before paying for broader charts. If you fish coastal water, border waters, or Canadian lakes, the DISCOVER bundle is the one to compare for that use. Neither bundle is universally better; it depends on where you boat. Before ordering, check that C-MAP DISCOVER covers your specific waters. Coverage can vary by location, so do not assume your lake or preferred contour detail is included without checking it first.
Sonar: wide CHIRP and DownScan, but no SideScan
According to Lowrance, the SplitShot HD transducer supplies wide-angle high CHIRP sonar and DownScan Imaging, which reads structure and fish beneath the boat. FishReveal combines CHIRP and DownScan information in one view, reducing the need to compare those two sonar views separately.
Autotuning supplies the starting sonar settings, which keeps the unit approachable while you learn it. It is a starting point, not a guarantee of perfect returns in every condition.
The limitation to understand before buying: this package has no SideScan. Lowrance’s own comparison shows SideScan available in the TripleShot configuration, not SplitShot. If reading structure to the sides of the boat matters to how you fish, this is not the bundle for that job. What you get is CHIRP and DownScan coverage beneath the boat.
Chartplotter and custom mapping
Beyond the preloaded DISCOVER charts, Genesis Live lets you create half-foot custom contours in real time as you motor over water. This can be useful on lakes with sparse existing mapping, since you build your own contour data by driving your regular routes.
Saving your own maps requires a compatible microSD card. The unit has one microSD slot with a 32 GB maximum, so confirm whether your seller’s package includes a suitable card or plan to obtain one separately.
The five-inch display tradeoff
The Eagle 5 uses a five-inch IPS screen at 800 x 480 with keypad controls. A five-inch display can suit a crowded small-boat mounting position where a larger unit would not fit, and it keeps the view focused when you are mostly glancing at depth and chart position. The tradeoff is simple: it has less space than a larger display when you want to watch sonar and charts side by side, or run several panels at once. Consider your viewing distance and how many panes you actually use before deciding that five inches is enough.

The unit runs on 12 V DC nominal, accepts 10.8 to 17 VDC, and Lowrance recommends a 3 A fuse in the power line. The housing is rated IPX7 with the card door closed. Measure your complete mount and cable clearance before ordering rather than relying on published dimensions; transducer cable runs and bracket swing take more room than the display alone.

The GPS Store lists a mounting bracket and power cable; confirm package contents with your seller before ordering rather than assuming every box is identical. Do not count on a battery, suncover, flush-mount kit, or memory card being included. Lowrance lists a one-year warranty.
