Uniden marine fixed mount VHF radios are just one of several marine electronics product lines produced by well-known wireless telephone maker, Uniden.
This company designs, builds, and markets a wide variety of consumer electronics that includes a diverse list of products from wireless telephones to digital cameras to automotive GPS systems.
A couple of years ago Uniden realigned their full line of fixed mount marine VHF radios by introducing a number of new models. We’ve tested them all five of them.
On the marine side, in addition to their fixed VHF lineup, they have a full line of handheld VHF radios, a digital depth finder, and several wireless remote microphones.
Uniden Entry Level
Uniden has one model that we would describe as entry level. Their most basic radio is the Uniden Solara, which features basic DSC capabilities and JIS7 waterproofing.
A Trifecta of Mid-Priced Marine VHF Radios
The Uniden Oceanus is the first one of three we would describe as a mid-level marine VHF radio. This radio is rated Class D DSC capable. Next up is the Uniden UM425, which adds position send and request DSC function as well as a dot matrix display screen. Moving up one more level with its large dot matrix screen, ability to output DSC data to a chartplotter, and connections to work with WHAM wireless remote microphones is the Uniden UM525.
Top-of-the-Line Uniden Features a Color Screen
At the top of the Uniden fixed mount VHF lineup is the Uniden UM625C. This radio was the first to feature a color display screen. This unit also features top performance, a 30-watt hailer, and WHAM microphone connectivity.
