My Lowrance LCX-104C has survived about six years on a 23-foot center console Dorado with only one repair. I have over the years found many good attributes to the LCX-104C.
Although it did die on me once about two years ago, going totally blank and losing all of my stored data including navigation and fishing waypoints as well as all my custom settings.
Getting the Lowrance Fixed
Lowrance repaired it for $350, but was not fast, I waited longer than I would have liked to get the unit back in service.
Post Repair
Up until now the Lowrance LCX-104C has worked fine. I like the way I can customize screen data and info. Night light is way too bright and can degrade my night vision. Buttons frequently stick and this has caused the unit to lock up in man overboard mode as well as other less than desirable places. This is a major problem.
Moisture Becomes an Issue
Now the problem seems to be moisture seeping inside the unit around the buttons. The unit cycles on and off and goes through various display modes at random. I no longer consider it a dependable machine.
At this point, I am considering a new unit and am not sure about what brand or model to go with.
