The Lowrance HDS-12 Gen 2 Touch Insight is the largest marine navigational system from Lowrance that has an easy-to-use multi-function touchscreen display with the look and feel of a computer tablet or smartphone. It comes with everything long-time Lowarance High Definition System users expect and much, much more.

The Touch Insight ‘s features include a high-definition, brightly colored, easy-to-use, twelve-inch widescreen touchscreen display, built-in fish-finding sonar and tools including the award winning Broadband Radar, and seamless integration with all of Lowrance’s Insight performance modules. It also has GPS navigation charts and contour maps, an Ethernet port, two full-sized SD card slots, and video camera support.

While every marine navigational system has a sonar or two, and the Lowrance HDS-12 Gen 2 Touch Insight has one of the best systems on the market. The built-in Broadband Sounder, StructureScan HD and Side- and DownScan sonar systems work in tandem to detect every fish, reef, and any other structure below your boat. Switching between these sonars is also quick and easy and you can view several of them at once using the powerful split-screen feature.

The HDS-12 Gen 2 Touch Insight is fully-integrated into Lowrance’s Insight Genesis, a web-based app that generates real-time 3D navigational and contour maps complete with waypoints, GPS, StructureMap and Broadband Radar data, and SIRIUS weather information overlaid on satellite maps from Bing. It is a great tool to have while fishing in uncharted waters. The Touch Insight also ships with Navionics and Insight USA cartography options with the same features for trips without internet access. Either way, the Touch Insight has the tools every fisherman needs while on the water.

The Touch Insight’s foot-wide enhanced SolarMAX PLUS touchscreen display is the first new feature long-time Lowrance users will notice. Those familiar with tablets and smartphones will feel at home with this new setup where every feature and map is accessible via icons and smart-keys. The screen itself is brightly colored and crystal clear even in sunlight and can display data in real-time on four different panels. There are also five buttons along the right edge of the device for sailing on rough seas.

With Insight Genesis at the heart of everything the HDS-12 Gen 2 Touch Insight does, it only makes sense that the system has a number of networking options.

The first option you have is the built-in dual Ethernet port. This port allows the Touch Insight to link with any computer giving you even more customizable options than you ever thought possible. Then, there is the optional wireless module that integrates the Touch Insight with your iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.

Anglers with smartphones and tablets already knew that touchscreen sonar and GPS navigation system were coming and the HDS-12 Gen 2 Touch Insight fulfills that prophecy nicely. It is the largest model in Lowrance’s HDS Gen 2 touchscreen navigational systems and it does not disappoint. While many long-time Lowrance customers may find the new interface overwhelming, most will find the feature very useful and it may just lead them to the catch they are looking for. I just replaced HDS-10 Gen1 with HDS-12 Touch Insight. What a difference. The bigger processor makes Touch Insight Gen2 much faster, switching between screens is super-fast. I love StructureMap, but the best of all is the touch screen, very easy and intuitive. Thanks Lowrance.

I bought HDS-12 Touch Insight because it’s got the largest screen of all fishfinders on the market today. It also has structure scan built-in, no need for additional modules. The only drawback is the price but you get what you pay for.
