I couldn’t decide between Lowrance Elite 5 DSI and HB 596 HD DI. Folks at fishfinders.com pointed out that Humminbird offers higher screen resolution and regular 2D sonar in addition to down imaging which Elite 5 DSI doesn’t have. I went with Humminbird and I’m really happy I did. I had no problems with installation, the images are very sharp and the fishfinder added a whole new dimension to my fishing experience.

With Humminbird 596c HD DI you will not have any excuses anymore. This fish finder is very reliable, accurate, and ready to let you know where the fish are located using Humminbird imaging technology. Down Imaging bounces high-frequency sound waves off of the fish and they show up the finders display screen with astonishing accuracy. The display screen is a 5-inch high definition LCD screen with a resolution of 640 V x 640 H. With so many pixels on a 5-inch display there is no wonder the imaging is almost lifelike.

More of the Humminbird innovations are used in their Dual Beam Plus sonar which has 16-degree and 25-degree beams. Also, using Switchfire Sonar you will have much more flexibility to manage the weather conditions such as clouds and sunshine. The sonar is rated to be able to gather images to a depth of 600’. Using the 596c HD DI fishfinder you will be able to see every fish, rock, and tree in the water.

Installation is a breeze for a handy fisherman with a little bit of time on his hands, so there is no need for professional installation charges. Packaged along with the fishfinder are the easy to install mount and the instruction manual. I recommend every angler needs to purchase a fish finder and if you can afford the 596c then purchase it, but be ready not to have any more excuses. The Humminbird 596c HD DI will help you get maximum results from your fishing season. Also, the sonar is a lot of fun to play with when you are bored.

Fishfinders.com is the best place to buy it online. You can get for under $500 after their 10% discount.

I bought this unit for my pontoon after some consideration. Since the boat never leaves the lake I figured the GPS unit I keep on my runabout would be overkill. This unit works great for soundings which is all I wanted it for. The only bad thing I can say is that it was discontinued by the manufacturer. Guess I was lucky to get it before they stopped selling them.

Have had this unit for about 3 years. Easy to use and understand. However mount system for transducer sucks, easily broken, but what’s worse is the quick connect mount for the unit. After a couple of years the pins wallow out and then the controls on the unit stop working. I am constantly having to remove unit and stuff copper wire strands into the female part of the connections.
