HB 898c SI is an awesome piece of equipment, definately worth the investment. I have discovered things on the bottom I have passed by for the last 10 years. It has not only helped me to become a better angler but I also learned a lot about my favorite fishing spots.

The fishfinder has all the features needed: 8 inch high resolution screen, side imaging, down imaging, regular color sonar imaging, GPS, temperature sensor. It’s not cheap but in my opinion it’s still good value because of what you get for the money. And it’s still cheaper than Lowrance HDS with structure scan. I’ve used many fishfinders but this one is by far the best.

You got to have Humminbird 898c SI if you’re serious about fishing. I fish tournaments and all I can see is this fishfinder has already earned its keep after 6 months. The display detail is incredible. It’s relatively easy to use but you will have to call HB customer service if you want to printed manual, the unit comes with manual on disk only.

This unit doesn’t have paper manual, only softcopy. $1500 fishfinder should have a manual so that you can take with you on the lake. No complaints otherwise, works as advertised.

Buying HB 898 Si was a bad investment. Humminbird claims this sonar is supposed to reach depth of 1500 feet, mine stops working at 200 feet. After using it for week, I’ll have to de-install it and send back to the manufacturer. Will never buy Humminbird again.

This model has a major flaw – the backlighting for the screen is insufficient. You can’t see the graphs in daylight. That’s why Humminbird came out with the HD version, do not buy this model, get the HD one.

Not sure if it is my bad luck in receiving a lemon or just a bad product. My 898csi hd 7 works fine up till about 8 knots. As soon as I hit 9 or higher it might as well be a decoration. I have tried replacing the transducer multiple times and spent hours on the phone with support. Now that they are finally done trying to convince me it was my mistake, I have to ship the entire unit back for testing. So a month from now I should find out if it was a bad unit. Not impressed with the unit or support experience.
